Why Would Anyone Want to Steal Your Dream?
It is unfortunate, but even well meaning friends and family have a tendency to do this. Especially when it comes to business.
They will offer ‘practical’ advice that says:
-
You shouldn’t take a chance
-
You shouldn’t stick your neck out
-
You shouldn’t be so risky
-
What if you fail and don’t succeed?
But what they really fear most is not that you fail, but that you do succeed.
It’s human nature I’m afraid and very well documented by psychologists. Deep down, most people don’t want you to do better than them. So they try to keep you at their level or even push you down further.
In fact, many secretly wish you to fail so they can be proven right.
You are nodding in agreement right now, aren’t you, because you are thinking of certain people who are already treating you this way? Am I right?
Unfortunately this is usually the case in many businesses ventures.
So what do you do about it?
There are a few tips that will help.
-
First, don’t take advice from people who aren’t where you want to be – they can’t help you get to your goals. Only take advice from someone who has already accomplished what you are looking to do. Only those who are already at the destination you seek can help you find the quickest path to your goals.
-
For others who feign concern for your chosen path, say ‘Thank you for your concern, but everything is going to plan’ and keep pressing forward.
Trust me, all the people who were ‘concerned’ about your well being will be surprisingly silent once you have shown your first signs of success.
How do you keep your dream alive?
-
Keep a positive mindset. Don’t let yourself get caught up in other’s negativity.
-
Do at least one thing every day that moves your business forward. It doesn’t matter whether you can put in eight hours or half an hour, just make it a point to do something constructive in your business every day.
-
Find and associate with people who think like you.
-
Find people who are successful in the area you want to be and ask for their guidance. They’ve already accomplished what you desire so it is easy for them to tell you how to do it.
The funny thing is when you truly start to focus on your goals, people and events that will help you achieve them will begin to appear.
It’s like buying a new car. Right up until you bought yours, you hardly noticed that model on the roads. But now you see them everywhere. They were always there; you are now just more attuned to them.
The same thing goes for business opportunities that seem to magically pop up. They were always there; you just didn’t see them till now.
What if you do hit a road block in your business?
So what, then you have just found one way to not reach your goal.
You haven’t failed; you have learned a valuable lesson. Be persistent – find another way around.
Don’t listen to those who want you to give up, because if you do, it just means more years of what you already have. And that is not what you want, is it?
Take it from my own experience. I have had many ventures that didn’t work out as planned, but I have had far more that did.
The thing is that if you keep pressing on, your successes will outnumber your failures, because you are learning as you go, and you get to keep all those lessons for the next time.
How do you know if your dream is big enough?
Easy!
If you have a goal and you know exactly how to attain it without question, it is not a worthy goal because you already know how to do it. But if you have a goal, a dream, a desire that you want to achieve and don’t know how you are going to reach it – now that’s a goal worth having.
Stretch your mind and see yourself where you want to be and if you truly believe, you will get there.
How do you stay focused on your goals?
Write down your goals and dreams and look at them often.
I carry a card in my pocket with my dreams that I look at every day.
You should do the same as it is extremely effective in keeping focus. Plus if you keep your cards, you get to review goals of the past. And you’ll look at many of them and be thinking to yourself ‘Wow, I passed that goal a long time ago – I can do ANYTHING!‘
Closing thoughts
-
Don’t live life without having a vision of where you want to be
-
Expect to be successful. It may not come on your schedule, but stick to your goals and your dreams will be achieved
-
You will have naysayers, ignore them
-
You will have setbacks, press on
-
You will have failures, learn from them
-
You will have triumphs, cherish them
-
You will reach goals, set new ones
-
You will attain your dream, celebrate it
And now that you know these things, be the positive force in someone else’s dream, just like I will always strive to be the positive force in yours.
The DREAM IS YOURS – follow it!
